5 Weird Playmobil Toys

September 13, 2016

Playmobil is a popular line of German-produced figurines and playsets. Literally hundreds of different toys are available to account for the interests of any child. Stores, fire stations, airports, horse shows—you name it, there’s a Playmobil playset version of it. They’ve even come out with some that you’d never think of, but hey, there’s some kid out there who might really get a kick out of these.

Playmobil Arena

This isn’t a modern-day sports arena where Playmobil figures can play hockey or put on a rodeo. This is an arena of ancient Rome, where they held gladiator fights and other sports where people fought to the death. The set comes with a chariot (including horses and a racer), a bunch of gladiator figures, and to take care of the losing gladiator, a lion.

Playmobil ExecutionerExecutioner

An accessory for a medieval castle playset, this figure does the dirty work of the Playmobil king. He wears a red hood, and comes with gigantic, head-severing axe. (It also comes with a dagger in case the axe doesn’t work.) The red hood is removable, too, revealing underneath the face of…a smiling man.

Egyptian Queen

Make no mistake—this limited edition Playmobil figurine is not just any Egyptian queen. She’s very clearly supposed to be the ancient ruler Cleopatra. A defining characteristic is that the figure comes with an asp. History buffs can tell you that Cleopatra committed suicide with the help of an asp’s poison…so kids can have fun re-creating that moment if they’re so inclined.

HAZMAT Crew

No euphemisms here. This is a nuclear waste cleanup crew. The set includes a barrel with goo coming out of it (which must be toxic because the barrel bears a skull-and-crossbones sticker), along with some industrial vacuum cleaners and two workers in head-to-toe protective suits outfitted with breathing equipment.

Portable Toilet

If only Uncle John could have had this one as a kid. Meant to be an addition to one of Playmobil’s many construction crew playsets, this is porta-john style temporary toilet for when the workers (two are included) need to make a pit stop. The toilet lid really flips up and down!
