Because you’ll need something to celebrate after you pay your taxes today.
April 16: National High Five Day
The high five was invented during a Los Angeles Dodgers game in 1977—Glenn Burke raised a hand in the hair to congratulate teammate Dusty Baker, and Baker slapped it. While it didn’t happen on this exact day, it was created by three University of Virginia students in 2002. Celebrate by giving and getting high fives from everyone you meet.
April 23: National Zucchini Bread Day
It’ll only be a few weeks before zucchini are growing out of control in your garden, along with the gardens of all of your friends and coworkers who’ll try to share their extra squash with you. Before everyone gets sick of zucchini, make some zucchini bread.
April 25: Penguin Awareness Day
Are you aware of penguins? Great, then this holiday is not for you. Otherwise, enjoy a penguin documentary.
April 26: Richter Scale Day
This marks the 1900 birthday of seismologist Charles Richter, who invented the most famous earthquake measurement device in 1935. (Fun fact: There has never been a major earthquake in the U.S. on April 26.)
April 26: Hug an Australian Day
If you know an Australian, give them a g’day, mate (sorry), by giving them a hug of appreciation.
April 27: National Prime Rib Day
Whether you consider prime rib to be a steak, a roast, or just a serving of meat, get yourself a big slab of beef today (with horseradish).
