Fake-or-Fact Friday: Prince Edition

October 17, 2014

Prince is making a comeback. After appearing on New Girl earlier this year, this month he released two new albums: Plectrumelectrum and Art Official Age. He’s also one of the biggest eccentrics in music history. Which of the following are true, and which isn’t? Answer at the end of the post.

A.

In 2013, Prince released a single called “Breakfast Can Wait.” The cover art for the release depicted comedian Dave Chappelle dressed as Prince holding a plate of pancakes. The image comes from a 2003 episode of Chappelle’s Show, in which show staff writer Charlie Murphy recounted, and the show recreated, the time Murphy went to a party at Prince’s house and the singer made pancakes for everyone in attendance.

B.

Not only did Prince use a picture of Dave Chappelle dressed as Prince for the cover of his 2013 single “Breakfast Can Wait,” but the Chappelle’s Show episode devoted to recreating crazy stories about Prince reportedly plays on a loop in every room of Prince’s “Paisley Park” mansion 24 hours a day.

C.

It was just announced that Prince will be the musical guest on Saturday Night Live on November 1. The host for the episode is Chris Rock. One of Prince’s Twitter accounts made the announcement by posting a picture of Chris Rock…dressed as Prince. Their shared history goes back even further, to 1997. VH1 wanted to air a one-on-one interview with Prince, who only agreed to do it if Rock would interview him. Rock agreed and the show aired.
