6 Weirdest Things at the 2015 Consumer Electronics Show

January 12, 2015

CES 2015 just wrapped up in Las Vegas, and here are the oddest things apparently coming soon from the world of science and technology.

  • Weirdest things at CES“Wearable technology,” such as Internet-enabled watches and fitness-tracking wristbands were the big trend at CES this year, and Vert is in that category. Well, sort of. This is a $125 tech-enhanced piece of neon-colored Velcro is to be worn around the waste that measures and sends to a smartphone…stats on how high its user can jump.
  • The Parrot Pot is a system consisting of a water bottle and an electronically-enabled water spigot. The Parrot Pot is placed in a planter, and the system connects to a tablet or smartphone app, and it allows the user to water their plants, over the Internet, from a distance.
  • The Foot Hammock. For when you want to put your feet up but can’t (because you’re at work) or shouldn’t (because you’re at work), this miniature hammock hooks up to the underside of a desk and hangs there, allowing you to place your feet inside and take a load off.
  • If you’re worried about a robot uprising, you don’t need to worry about FURo-S. This child-size robot looks like a vacuum cleaner with a TV monitor for a head. On the monitor is a creepy cartoon face that speaks…but doesn’t have moving lips to match. The rest of the robot is concerned with holding up a huge, 22-inch touchscreen, which is where the user enters commands.
  • The Tao Chair measures how many calories you’ve burned…while sitting down. As you shift, grip the armrests, or strain as it lightly clutches you, calories burned are displayed on a screen, or beamed to a smartphone.
  • Look out Samsung and Apple, because there’s a new player in the smartphone market, and it’s geared at those for whom expensive smartphones apparently aren’t expensive enough. Tononio Lamborghin, maker of the Lamborghini luxury sports car, unveiled a smartphone made of calfskin and stainless steel. It boasts a 20-megapixel camera, long battery life…and a $6,300 price tag.
