6 Weird Holidays in March

March 1, 2016

Just in case you don’t have enough fun on St. Patrick’s Day, there are these.
March Holidays

March 1: National Pig Day

Myth: Pigs are dirty animals. They roll around in the mud only to cool off, but they generally keep clean. Pigs only a few weeks old have already learned to go to the bathroom as far away as possible from their food. Pigs are clearly intelligent animals, and in 1972 a Texas art teacher named Ellen Stanley started this holiday to raise awareness and show appreciation for our porcine friends.

March 3: If Pets Had Thumbs Day

Today is the day to ponder those bizarre “what ifs?” that occur to you when you’re laying awake in bed, in the shower, or staring off into space. (Yeah, what would it be like if our dogs and cats had thumbs?)

March 8: National Proofreading Day

It dosne’t take two much tyme to go back and reed what you rote to make sure its correct.

March 10: Middle Name Pride Day

You probably share a first name with millions, and a first and last name with quite a few people, too. Add in the middle name, and you’ve likely got a one-of-a-kind name. Celebrate that on this day, and share your middle name with others, and ask theirs, too. (Uncle John’s middle name? Flushing.)

March 12: International Fanny Pack Day

Whether you’re a goofy tourist or just need to carry around a bunch of stuff while keeping your hands free, this is the day to wear with pride your “belt pouch,” “bum bag,” or “fanny pack.”

March 26: National Spinach Day

Be like Popeye, and eat your spinach today. It’s high in iron. (And if you skip celebrating because for some reason you don’t like spinach, remember that Fresh Spinach Day is just around the corner on July 16.)
